New California wine brand Mela is launching its first products. Based in Napa, the name Mela is short for “melanin,” nodding to the skin tones of its four female co-founders. The brand is debuting with two releases: a 2021 White Blend ($28 a 750-ml.) and a 2020 Red Blend ($40 a 750-ml.) The former is made from Gewürztraminer, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, and Riesling, sourced from Napa Valley, Mendocino, and Clarksburg, California. The red is a blend of Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Malbec, and Syrah, sourced from Napa Valley and Clarksburg. Both are available exclusively at Mela’s website. For more information, visit Melavino.com.
