California’s Tensley Wines is introducing Syrah Lite ($20 a 750-ml.), billed as a lighter-bodied option meant to be served at a cooler temperature. The wine is harvested earlier, resulting in lower sugar and therefore lower alcohol levels (13% abv), compared to the full-bodied Syrahs Tensley is known for. The grapes are farmed using organic methods with a six-day maceration and six months of aging in neutral barrels. Tensley’s Syrah Lite is currently available in New York and New Jersey, or through the winery’s tasting room in Santa Barbara, California with national distribution rolling out soon.
