Massachusetts-based Gordon’s Fine Wines & Liquors opened its first Boston location at the start of January. Spanning 3,000 square feet, the unit marks the retailer’s fifth outpost in the state, joining Gordon’s four existing locations in Waltham, Watertown and Newton. “The idea was to build a modern package store for an urban environment, and we really wanted it to be an experience as well,” says owner David Gordon. The new outpost stocks more than 600 wine SKUs, which start at around $11 a 750-ml. bottle and run up into the $1,000-plus range. The store also offers more than 670 spirits SKUs, including roughly 200 Scotch SKUs, curated by Scotch and whisk(e)y specialist Nick Taylor. Gordon’s also features both mainstream and craft beer offerings. The location has a large tasting area, with six Enomatic dispensers offering 48 different wines for daily tastings. In addition, Gordon’s Boston has partnered with Waltham-based Moody’s Delicatessen & Provisions to offer an in-store deli counter. Menu items include an assortment of grab-and-go gourmet sandwiches and cheeses, as well as New England Charcuterie–branded hand-sliced meat products. The Boston store recently launched its weekly “Whiskey Wednesday” seminar series, and Gordon says it will host a variety of events in the coming months.
