New York City’s Flatiron Wines & Spirits unveiled a location on the West Coast in February. Located in San Francisco’s Palace Hotel, the 3,500-square-foot outpost is roughly 2,000 square feet larger than Flatiron’s flagship Manhattan store and boasts nearly double the selection, with well over 4,000 wine and spirits SKUs. The West Coast store is focused on showcasing boutique producers from around the world, with a particular emphasis on small-production California wines. Much of Flatiron’s San Francisco wine selection ranges from $12 to $40 a 750-ml. bottle, though such luxury offerings as the 2010 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Chambertin ($4,000 for a magnum bottle) are also available. The new store features a tasting room which allows shoppers to taste wines while ordering food from the Palace Hotel’s menu. Additionally, Flatiron is working to duplicate its successful New York City programming at the San Francisco location, offering a variety of seminars, free tastings and other events. “In New York, we’ve been able to build a program that has attracted some of the world’s top winemakers and importers, and customers at the Manhattan store always comment on its energy,” says Beau Rapier, general manager and partner at Flatiron Wines & Spirits. “Our number-one priority is making sure that the San Francisco shop has that same dynamic.”
